The Social Innovation and Youth Mentorship challenge was launched in 2015 to bring together individuals with a passion for Information Technology.

We attempt to inspire and encourage students to consider careers in information technology through active mentoring and events like hackathons where we demonstrate what it is like to use technology to solve real world social and business problems.

TED speakers have included Roger Ebert, Sheryl Sandberg, Bill Gates, Elizabeth Gilbert, Benoit Mandelbrot, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Brian Greene, Isabel Allende and former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

Illuminating queer lives through film.

For 28 years, Out On Screen has proudly showcased films that illuminate the transformative moments in the lives of queer people – telling stories of the journeys we have taken to find ourselves, each other and our place in the world. Every time we take a seat at the Festival, we are experiencing the difference we are making: creating social change through film, education and dialogue.

We are a joint research institute between Simon Fraser University (SFU), the University of British Columbia (UBC), and the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), dedicated to effective and innovative education and knowledge enrichment.

Who we are

The Teaching and Learning Centre consists of education and technology professionals who support SFU instructors and academic units in the development and delivery of innovative approaches designed to enhance their students' learning experiences. We provide educational consultation, technical and pedagogical services, assistance with course and curriculum development, and professional development opportunities.

Universities in Canada are associated with teaching and research, but they also have a great capacity for service to their communities. Friends of Simon, an award-winning SFU Faculty of Education initiative, brings together an attitude of inquiry, our instructional knowledge, and our students, in order to provide literacy tutoring for school-aged children and youth.
