On September 9, 1965, Simon Fraser University opened its doors and welcomed its first class of 2,500 students. The 50th anniversary provides us with an opportunity to celebrate this important milestone and showcase SFU’s evolution, recognizing the many people behind the innovations and accomplishments. The 50th anniversary also provides a launch pad to create excitement about SFU’s next 50 years. Through the 50th year celebration we plan to:

  • Engage SFU staff, students, faculty, and alumni and enhance a sense of community and pride across our campuses
  • Strengthen the bond between SFU and local, national and global partners and supporters
  • Articulate and communicate SFU’s vision and reputation as Canada’s most community-engaged university
  • Achieve greater recognition of SFU’s brand and reputation within the Lower Mainland, B.C. and Canada
  • Support the 50th year anniversary fund raising campaign, launched on September 9, 2013
